BSc Accountancy is a broad-based academic programme and a field of study with practical implications, offering you the chance to develop related personal and professional skills.
The degree involves the consideration of conceptual, professional and practical aspects of accountancy and is progressive, allowing you to move from foundation modules to more critical and specialist modules. As part of the degree, you will also study the international and ethical considerations of accountancy with optional modules grounding the study of accountancy in a broader understanding of the perspectives that inform accounting theory and professional practice.
Typical modules will include: Introduction to Financial Accounting, Accountancy for Business, Company Law and Regulation, Management Accounting, Taxation, Research Methods in Accountancy, Advanced Financial Reporting, Audit and Assurance and Forensic Accounting.
ACCA and CIMA accreditation is already available on selected modules within this degree and the Department will apply for further accreditation by ACCA, CIMA and the ICAEW to benefit graduates of 2020 onwards (subject to approval by the accountancy bodies).
If you opt for a placement year with this degree you can look forward to gaining valuable work experience that will help increase your employability when you graduate. Graduates of BSc degrees offered by the Department of Economics and Finance at Brunel have an excellent employment record and go on to work in a wide variety of occupations. Some go on to further study and become professional accountants; others are employed in industry, the financial sector or government. In some cases a job offer comes from a former work placement employer.
