This degree gives you an understanding of the rights of children and young people and their role and status in society, enabling you to work with them in a rewarding career. Taught by experts in the field, this course uses sociology, psychology and history to explore childhood, and you will have opportunities to specialise in your chosen areas. You will develop essential skills in recognising how the experiences of childhood and youth are shaped by class, race, gender, disability, sexuality, religion, poverty, region and nationality.
You can also study and gain experience within social enterprise. This rapidly growing sector, which pursues improvements to wellbeing through commercial strategies, is increasingly important in engaging with children and young people.
If you have the ability but not the qualifications for our three-year course, you should consider our extended degree. This begins with a foundation year that will prepare you for degree-level study.
You will gain a thorough introduction to childhood and youth studies, essential computing skills, improved communication, academic writing skills, an understanding of ethics, enterprise and leadership, and the ability to manage your studies independently. After your first year, you will study the same modules as on our three-year course.
