The Childhood Practice course is designed for those who are interested in the broadest theoretical and practical understanding of childhood, perfect for those who wish to explore the topic and keep their options open. The course is the ideal stepping stone to further qualifications, such as postgraduate diploma in Early Years with ITT, School Direct and PGCE.
This degree focuses on the steps children take on their learning and developmental journey, and teaches you how to support them along the way. Studies focus on the broader understanding of educational policy and practice theory, as well as specific elements such as literacy and numeracy. During this degree you will have the oppotunity to experiment with different styles of working with children in a variety of formal and informal settings. Understand the broad theories and policies behind childhood and
cognitive development education. There are a variety of placements which will give you the experience and confidence needed to apply for postgraduate training. This course will give you a solid academic grounding for your future career whilst giving yourself time to explore your strengths and interests. This flexible course can be attended on either a full or part-time (up to six years) basis, to fit in with your commitments. At no stage will you be assessed in practice, giving you total freedom to explore your vocation.
Many students go on to early years or primary teaching through a postgraduate qualification. Other opportunities include community education, integrated services, children’s workforce professionals, care services and social work.
