This course is ideally suited to those who wish to work with children and young people and prepares you for employment within early years, play work, or as a teaching assistant. The course has been developed with input from professionals working within the vocational sector to ensure that it is industry relevant. Optional pathway: FdA Children and Young People (Early Years Educator). This pathway is aimed at those whose area of interest lies within the early year’s sector and offers a full and relevant childcare qualification enabling you to be counted in qualified staff ratios in early years’ settings. You will undertake a work placement as part of our work-ready guarantee. You will also be offered the opportunity to study a First Aid qualification which is now a mandatory requirement for all practitioners within the Early Years sector. If you wish to pursue a career in Early Years you will undertake a paediatric first aid course. If you are looking to work with children and young people in the older age ranges, then you will undertake a general First Aid qualification. You will undertake a work placement for a minimum of 100 hours in each year of study, relevant to your intended employment preference. This will provide you with the opportunity to experience the real-working environment within your chosen setting. Previous students have undertaken placements with schools, day nurseries, disability teams and drug and alcohol organisations. Some work placements can include relevant paid employment. Previous graduates have secured employment with Barnardos, YMCA, NSPCC, Streetwise, the NHS and within Social Services in roles such as nursery nurses, advisors and family support workers. A number of students have also progressed into roles as teaching assistants within primary and secondary education as well as positions within voluntary, statutory and private services for children and young people. You may wish to pursue further study and progress onto to our BA (Hons) Children and Young People (Top-Up) degree or our BA (Hons) Health and Social Care (Top-Up) degree.
