This foundation degree is focused on those significant early years of childhood and will help you to understand the theories underpinning practice. You’ll develop a theoretical understanding of how 0-5 year olds behave, develop and learn, using your experience as a starting point. You’ll gain insights which will help you to have a more positive
impact on the children and families you work with. This course focuses on developing your understanding of psychological, social, political and ethical factors which impact on early years education. The result is a richer, deeper understanding of your sector as a whole, and the ability to critically reflect on your own professional practice. From start to finish, you’ll be challenged and inspired in equal measure. Work-based learning will make up a quarter of your qualification, giving you ample opportunity to put new ideas into practice with the support of your employer and course leaders.This foundation degree is designed for people working or volunteering in educational settings for at least 10 hours per week who wish to further develop their skills, knowledge and career prospects. You can combine study with work-based learning, meaning you can focus on professional development in the context of your current job. As part of the course, you’ll need to be working or volunteering with children or young people in an educational or Early Years setting. Following completion of your Foundation degree, you’ll be able to apply for a progression year to gain your Honours degree. After gaining Honours, routes into Qualified Teacher Status or Early Years teacher status are open to you.
