This programme will provide a pathway to a challenging and exciting career for anyone interested in the broad range of enterprises associated with the land. It encompasses agriculture enterprises and countryside management and reviews forestry, game and fisheries management as key enterprises. Knowledge of these aspects of the rural sector isenhanced with industry visits and work placement.
You will cover whole farm reviews, building design and conversion, landlord-tenant issues, planning and development, integrated estate planning, the use of renewables and access to the countryside. The College’s own farm, equine stables and shooting estate are all used to gain skills and knowledge of running diverse enterprises. The programme also requires those with entrepreneurial and innovative skills to overcome the associated issues of food security, environmental management and climate change.
Your studies will also include the practicalities of rearing stock, crops, game birds and deer; and the control of pests and vermin. The programme also reviews the estate and its role as a service industry, encompassing customer care and human resource management.
You will study a combination of classroom theory sessions and practical sessions in the field; giving you experience of estate management, fisheries, and farm enterprises. The land-based sessions are supported by a range of taught sessions, tutorials, and seminars; learning in a friendly environment with experts. The programme has many visits to a wealth of diverse land-based industries and related countryside. The unique element of this programme is that you will be able to gain an internship with leading employers in the industry.
