Develop your knowledge of history while exploring your passion for film.
Our History and Film Studies degree has an equal focus on both subjects, offering the flexibility to combine module options that explore the history and film cultures of a particular country.
In the first year you’ll be introduced to key concepts in film studies and modern history. The wide range of optional modules in your second and third years gives you the chance to study American, British and European history, and to explore the unique film cultures that developed in Britain, France, Germany, India and the United States throughout the 20th century and beyond.
Film Studies fosters an understanding of visual aesthetics and may lead you into areas of study as diverse as politics, philosophy, technology and performance. You also have the option to extend your degree by studying abroad for a year.
