This course is designed specifically for students aspiring to managing their own business in the world of hospitality. It will create hospitality entrepreneurs who will develop innovative business models. It will also develop Entrepreneurship or Corporate Entrepreneurship skills which will help graduates to thrive in the modern corporate world.
The world of hospitality is made up of a myriad of small independent, often family run businesses, offering food and lodging across the world. Hospitality is a diverse and dynamic industry which encourages entrepreneurs. 80% of new ventures are born as family firms and about 60% of the UK’s 4.2 million enterprises are family firms, yet 60% of hospitality businesses fail within their first year and 80% before their 5th anniversary. Furthermore, 66% of Millennials want to work for themselves (Bentley University 2014) as it offers a lifestyle and independence that is appealing to more and more people. There is a growing demand for graduates with entrepreneurial skills who are able to understand the multi-faceted aspects of managing their own business. This exciting and bespoke course will allow students to develop their entrepreneurial skills in order to manage a small independent business. It is developed specifically for the hospitality entrepreneur and will give students a specialist understanding of the real world of entrepreneurship.
The course enables the graduate to enter the industry as a competent, confident and well-informed entrepreneur having acquired the knowledge required to run a small business.
This course is designed to develop the unique skills needed to run a business. The course will cover the personal and business aspects that are required, from the financial facets to the marketing and human resources acumen. The course will include the development of a real-world business plan that will allow students to develop their own idea and put it into practice. The course content includes modules specific to hospitality operations as well as contextualized entrepreneurial business management modules. In addition, the course encourages the development of intellectual and management skills in the areas of business and personal development.
This course will allow graduates to develop a small business in the field of hospitality, whether it be a food and beverage operation or a bed and breakfast. Upon completion of the course, students will also be able to progress onto one of the masters courses offered within the university or choose to work in the UK or abroad.
Students will also be able to work within the wider world of hospitality where international companies are seeking out the skills of corporate entrepreneurship in order to develop innovation and change.
