This degree allows you to study the main marketing disciplines, enabling you to determine which aspects of the profession best suit your skills and personality. Covering both the theory that underpins marketing practice and the practical skills you need to succeed in the workplace, you will learn how the different elements of marketing work together, from the research, project management and budgeting required to plan and deliver a communications campaign, to the inspiration behind effective advertising images and copy. You will also examine the strategic and operational dimensions of international marketing and the importance of cross-cultural communication. You will gain a thorough understanding of how marketing campaigns work in practice through analysing broadcast and print (television, radio, newspapers and magazines) and social and digital media communications (Facebook, Twitter, websites and email). Graduates from this course have built successful careers in different parts of the industry, such as public relations, advertising, brand management, media planning and buying, event management and product testing. We also offer four year routes where you can spend your third year on industrial placement or studying abroad. This degree is available as a three year fulltime course or as a four year course incorporating a placement or overseas study. You will be taught in the Business School’s state of the art building on All Saints Campus in central Manchester. The Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) is the leading professional body for marketers worldwide and exists to develop the marketing profession, maintain professional standards and improve the skills of marketing practitioners. Manchester Metropolitan University has joined forces with CIM to give students the opportunity to gain professional qualifications through CIM Graduate Gateway. CIM qualifications are highly sought after by employers, and map alongside our own degrees which ensures we are equipping students with the best opportunities for a successful marketing career. Find out more at www.cim.co.uk/qualifications/graduate-gateway. The placement route provides the opportunity to work during your third year, enabling you to apply your studies to real-life marketing roles and ‘testing’ possible future career paths. The overseas study option enables you to spend a year studying abroad at one of our partner universities in the USA, Australia, China (Hong Kong), France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Spain and Cyprus. Teaching methods are supported by Moodle - our virtual learning environment - podcasting and video links. Agency Life is a second year unit which may include an internship, where you will gain real work experience in a marketing agency on a short, project-based internship. You may instead work on an in-house taught project. This experience will provide you with real-life learning about the day-today workings of marketing/PR/digital agencies and enhance your employability. The Faculty of Business and Law hosts two Professional Development Weeks annually. Free and open to all students, this includes a festival of skills-development activities, practical support in developing your CV and employability skills, and the opportunity to network with actively recruiting graduate employers.
