The value of the global luxury goods market has now reached Euro 1tn for the first time. This is not just handbags and jewelry - it includes sales from all types of brands from haute cuisine and haute couture including luxury cars, fine art, watches and travel. Who is buying? There are now 715,000 millionaires in the UK, a 40% rise since 2010. The luxury market is important to the UK economy. More than £33 billion is generated annually by the UK’s high-end creative and cultural industries, which now employ around 120,000 people and sector value is forecast to increase by around £20 billion with a further 30,000 employment opportunities by 2019.
