Microbiology is a laboratory-based science studying the micro-organisms which affect human, animal and plant health. Microbiologists are at the cutting edge of solving the microbial problems facing mankind such as developing new vaccines and combating pests and disease in crops. At Nottingham, you will learn a wide variety of practical techniques, develop research knowledge and gain industry exposure. By the end of the course you will be qualified to work with microbial pathogens – this means you can pursue a laboratory career immediately, such as in a research lab or pharmaceutical company. You can take an optional placement in industry between years two and three of your degree programme, recent students have worked in the food industry on food safety and product development.
