This degree offers pre-registration teaching in the specialist field of learning disabilities. Learning disabilities nurses play a vital role in supporting people
who often face barriers when trying to have their health needs addressed. You will ensure that their rights are valued and they are supported as equal citizens.
You will gain the specialist knowledge and skills to ensure that people with learning disabilities receive high-quality care. You will learn to work in partnership with the person with the learning disability, their family and carers, and fellow professionals. Your time will be equally divided between study on campus and periods on placement. We will prepare you to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a registered learning disabilities nurse.
Graduates from this course work in community settings, specialist schools, assessment and intervention services and hospitals across the acute and community sectors. Nurses in both hospital and community settings have opportunities to become managers, educators and clinical specialists.
