This degree provides the knowledge and skills you will need for a career in mental health nursing. Your studies will be evenly split between theoretical and practical learning with half of each academic year spent on placement. Your placements will be in a variety of institutional and community settings, such as hospitals, clinics, health centres, forensic services, assessment and intervention services, and schools. Your progress will be assessed by qualified and experienced practitioners, who will help you develop the ability to empower your patients and their families to make informed health decisions. We promote multi-professional
and collaborative working, with shared learning between nursing and midwifery students.
As a graduate from this course, you will be able to apply to the Nursing and Midwifery Council to register as a mental health nurse. Mental health nurses work in many clinical areas, including community, prison and forensic settings; hospitals; GP practices; and primary care and mental health locations across the acute and community sectors.
