Professionally approved by the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL), our hands-on BA (Hons) Outdoor Adventure Education degree gives you the opportunity to spend three years studying an exciting way of educating people within the outdoor environment. This degree explores the principles of how people learn about themselves by challenging them in often unfamiliar environments. You will explore how to bring out the best in others, helping them to deal with challenges and anxiety, how to build co-operative teams and how to provide appropriate levels of support. You will develop key skills in team working, problem solving, effective communication, business/client awareness, self-management and resilience. Take advantage of opportunities to study abroad e.g. at Memorial University in Canada, or take up international placements with Camp America.This course is led by experienced tutors with many links to help you to secure interesting placements and to launch your career in the sector. Support provided to gain coaching and leading NGB awards from British Canoeing, Mountain Training and the RYA. Take advantage of our free to borrow equipment, tutor expertise and ideal location to explore climbing, sailing, bushcraft, canoeing, mountain biking, kayaking, mountaineering and much more. This course leads to a variety of roles. You may work for expedition companies, in outdoor centres, as an outdoor learning tutor in schools, at adventure holiday companies, or you may set up your own business. Graduates also join the uniformed public services, both emergency and the military or undertake postgraduate study.
