If you have a passion for the challenge of performance and want to share this with others, this course is for you. The course will help you to understand how to bring out the best in people through participation in dance, drama and music. You’ll learn how to help them to overcome challenges such as vulnerability or lack of confidence, and you’ll be able to provide memorable experiences in which others can discover what they are really capable of. This degree is wide ranging. You’ll understand the theory and practice of education and how people best learn, and through placements you’ll perfect your practical teaching skills in order to prepare you for employment. You’ll also explore a range of different performance skills including directing, composition and production, and your own performance skills, enabling you to “put on a show”. Placements each year are drawn from our close links with hundreds of schools or performance environments across the region and nationally. At the end of the course you are well placed to pursue a career in performance, primary or secondary teaching (on completion of School Direct or PGCE). Opportunities exist within theatre in education, children’s or community theatre groups or youth and community work to potentially setting up your own company. Employability in the performing arts arena is the key goal of this course so that students can develop a career that builds on their passion for performance.
