The overarching philosophy for the degree is to explore how counselling and psychology are used within mental health and well-being services to support individuals to access resources such as education and employment to maintain healthy lives. Students will be offered training to develop their self-awareness, reflective, and active listening skills. The range of transferable skills learned on this programme are highly prized by employers and postgraduate professional courses. This degree, with a specialism in counselling theory and practice, will not qualify the individual student to practice as a counsellor, psychotherapist or counselling or clinical psychologist. If students wish to work therapeutically with individual's or groups then they will require further postgraduate training. Student's from this degree with be eligible, with the completion of the degree and with an interview to transfer directly on to a range of professional postgraduate training courses.
