War and conflict have shaped human society for millennia and this degree gives you the opportunity to explore many aspects of terrorism, ancient and contemporary war and conflict, human rights and global justice, while developing a range of transferable skills that are highly valued by employers.
Some 91% of our graduates are employed or in further study within six months of graduating (Destination of Leavers from HE survey 2015), and 74% of our students achieved a 1st class or 2.1 honours degree in 2017/18.
Our War and Society graduates have careers in the armed forces, government and politics, humanitarian organisations, journalism and media and public services.
Based on our stunning Singleton Park campus, in parkland overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, this course can be tailored to suit your interests through a wide range of modules covering war and society from the ancient world to the modern day.
Our interdisciplinary approach means you make connections with a range of subject areas, examining past cultures up to the present, incorporating history, literature, art, philosophy, music, and cinema.
Teaching on the course is informed by our world-leading research and you will be taught by academic staff who are specialist researchers and teachers from the subjects of American Studies, Classical and Egyptian Studies, History, Politics and International Relations, Literature and Media Studies.
You will gain excellent oral and writing skills and learn to present your ideas in a range of formats. You will also develop strong research and analytical skills and the ability to problem solve and make informed decisions.
In your second year, you will have the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad in the USA, Canada, China, Hong Kong or Singapore, further improving your student experience and enhancing your career prospects.
